Musicien autodidacte, multi-instrumentiste (guitare, basse, piano, batterie, percussions, chant...), Jean-Christophe ONNO a un parcours qui lui ressemble : riche, passionné, rempli de belles rencontres et de coups de cœur. Après plusieurs expériences de groupes de rock à l’adolescence, il se tourne pendant 10 ans vers le cinéma, son autre passion, d’abord comme cadreur puis comme 1er assistant-réalisateur.

Toujours fidèle à la musique, il suit parallèlement des cours de musique électroacoustique au Conservatoire de Marseille dans la classe de Pascal Gobin.
En 2003, David Walters, produit par Ya Basta (Gotan Project), le convoque à la basse pour une série de concerts. Il sera dès lors un bassiste recherché et poursuivra son expérience avec les groupes Lo (1ère partie The Saints) et Hanoijane. En 2007, il arrête sa carrière d’assistant-réalisateur pour se consacrer uniquement à la musique et à ses propres réalisations.

Il côtoie alors des grands noms du jazz (Simon Goubert et Sophia Domancich) et s’affirme dans de nouvelles collaborations : Lord Prosser (produit par Stéphane Mellino des Négresses Vertes), puis AbelK1, parolier de talent (Emilie Loizeau, Camélia Jordana). Il se lance alors comme auteur-compositeur-interprète, et réalise son premier clip pour le groupe Eden Roque. Mais, en 2008, la rencontre avec la chanteuse et comédienne estonienne Lembe LOKK se révèle déterminante et lui permet d’explorer un univers poétique original. Jean-Christophe ONNO y joue l’homme-orchestre et porte en avant la voix singulière de Lembe LOKK. Le duo fait mouche et sera vite repéré par Jean-Louis Murat qui les invite au Bataclan et à L’Alhambra en 2011. ROUGE MADAME est né. Leur titre Kaua sera sur les ondes nationales (FIP, France Inter, Nova, etc.) et Rouge Madame sera tour à tour groupe Itinérance 2012, Sélection Caisse d’Epargne 2012, etc.
Parallèlement à son activité de musicien de scène, Jean-Christophe ONNO réussit à combiner ses deux passions, la musique et le cinéma en devenant compositeur de musiques à l’image. Il se plaît à naviguer entre les genres, et les univers allant de l'art expérimental à la publicité (Balmain, Ruinart, le Comptoir des Cotonniers, etc.) au générique de télévision. Il est aujourd'hui un compositeur particulièrement en vue par la jeune génération de cinéastes français et internationaux, comme Brahim Fritah, Pascal Tessaud, Michel-Ange Quay, Eva Pervolovici ou encore Pengfei Song. Parmi les récompenses, il reçoit le Prix de la Meilleure Musique de Film Long-métrage au Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen CINEMED de Montpellier pour son premier long-métrage Chroniques d’un cour de récré (2013) de Brahim Fritah, participe à la BO du film Brooklyn de Pascal Tessaud (Grand Prix de la meilleure BO au Festival d'Aubagne 2015 ) et sélection à Cannes (ACID) 2014), et aura une sélection aux César 2015 avec Le magnifique court-métrage d'animation Bang Bang ! de Julien Bisaro. On notera aussi sa participation au sensible long-métrage Marussia de la jeune réalisatrice roumaine Eva Pervolovici, film sélectionné aux Berlinales 2014. Avec Beijing Stories (Prix de la Presse "Venice Days" à la Mostra de Venise) du réalisateur chinois Pengfei, ONNO compose une bande-originale remarquée (dont le titre Day by Day). S’en suivront d’autres belles sélections avec le troublant et radical Ciao Ciao de Song Chuan (Sélection Panorama Festival de Berlin 2017).

Le documentaire le convoque aussi régulièrement pour des sujets autour de la musique (Slam ce qui nous brûle de Pascal Tessaud) ou de l’Art Brut (Les bricoleurs de Paradis, Denise et Maurice de Rémy Ricordeau et lepassionnant, Eternity has no door of Escape d’Arthur Borgnis)
Jean-Christophe ONNO compose et participe également à de nombreuses créations pour le théâtre, la danse, l’art contemporain et même plus récemment pour la réalité virtuelle.

Actuellement, Jean-Christophe ONNO termine l’enregistrement d’un album de chansons en français en tant qu’auteur-compositeur-interprète. On retrouvera notamment sur l’album en invités de marque et partenaires de jeu : la talentueuse violoncelliste cubaine Ana Carla Maza et sa soeur Camila, la batteur catalan Marc Ayza, le contrebassiste de jazz Bruno Schorp, ou encore le célèbre joueur de N’Goni Youssouf Diabaté (Salif Keita, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Rokia Traoré, Véronique Samson etc..) La sortie de l’album est prévue en 2022.

A self-taught musician and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, percussions, vocals, etc.), Jean-Christophe Onno has a background that very much resembles him: rich in experience, passionate, and filled with fabulous encounters.

After several experiences in rock bands during his teens, Jean-Christophe turns towards cinema for 10 years, his other passion, firstly as a camera operator then as an assistant director.

Still loyal to his first love music, he follows lessons in electro-acoustic music in Pascal Gobin’s class at the Marseille Conservatory.

In 2003, David Walters, produced by Ya Basta (Gotan Project), invites Onno to play the bass for a series of concerts. From then on, he becomes a sought-after bass guitar player and pursues his collaboration with the bands Lo (first part of The Saints) and Hanojjane. In 2007 he ends his career as assistant director in order to dedicate himself entirely to music and to his own projects.

During this period, he works alongside big names in jazz, such as Simon Goubert and Sophia Domancich, and makes his marks during new collaborations: Lord Prosser (produced by Stéphane Mellino of the Négresses Vertes), then AbelK1, talented song-writer (Emilie Loizeau, Camélia Jordana).

He then embarks on a new phase in his career as singer-songwriter and directs his first video for the group Eden Roque. However, in 2008 his encounter with Estonian singer and actress, Lembe Lokk, proves to be a determining factor allowing him to explore an original and poetic universe. Onno plays the role of a one-man band and promotes the singular voice of Lembe Lokk. The duo is an immediate success and is quickly spotted by Jean-Louis Murat who invites them to the Bataclan and Alhambra concert halls in 2011. Rouge Madame is born. The track Kaua is played on national radio (FIP, France Inter, Nova, etc.) and Rouge Madame is ‘Itinérance’ group in 2012 and then Caisse d’Epargne Selection 2012.

While working as a performer, he manages to combine his two passions, music and cinema, by becoming a composer of music to image. He enjoys navigating between the two genres and works on a variety of media. He composes music for experimental art and advertising, as well as music for television credits. His work as a composer is especially appreciated by a younger generation of French and international film-makers, such as Brahim Fritah, Pascal Tessaud, Michel-Ange Quay, Eva Pervolovici or even Pengfei Song. Among the awards won, he walks away with the Prize for the best soundtrack (CINEMED) for his first long-feature film Chroniques d’un cour de récré (2013) by Brahim Fritah, and participates in the original soundtrack of the film Brooklyn by Pascal Tessaud (Grand Prize award for the best original creation soundtrack at the 2015 Aubagne Festival), and Cannes ACID Selection, and was among the 2015 César short-lists with the beautiful animation film Bang Bang by Julien Bisaro.

He participated in the full-length feature film Marussia by the young Romanian director Eva Pervolovici, which was selected during the 2014 Berlinales. The Chinese full-length feature film Beijing Stories, ((whose original title is Underground Fragrance) directed by Pengfei, for which Onno composed the remarkable soundtrack, received the “Venise Days” Press Prize at the Mostra in Venise (2015) as well as the Gold Hugo at the Chicago Festival. When it came out on the 6th of January 2016 it achieved critical acclaim.

Onno has composed and participated in many works for the theatre, dance and contemporary art.

Always on the lookout for musical explorations and new technologies, he is also one of the active members of La Firm, a musicians’ collective with Olivier Sens (creator of the software USINE) with whom he gives many performances and concerts.

Onno was the winner in 2015 of the prestigious ‘Music to image” residency at La-Chaise-Dieu, with the Clermont-Ferrand Festival partnership , for Wouaaah! by Brahim Fritah . He's finishing the music.

Ciao Ciao (Zorba productions), the second feature film of the Chinese director Song Chuan was in the Berlinales Panorama selection 2017.

The documentary Eternity has no door , 50 years of Art Brut, by Arthur Borgnis will be released in october 2017.

Onno has worked for the World Premiere advertising of Champagne RUINART in Virtual Reality (Prod : Virtuose reality ). The project will be showed in september 2017 and still work on other projects (Balmain, Ibis, etc.)

Now, he's about to release his first album solo as a singer. He invited many friends and musicians as:

Ana Carla Maza, Marc Ayza, Bruno Schorp, Philippe Blard, Youssouf Diabaté). All the songs are composed written, arranged by Onno.
